...think they're something special. You and I know the truth, though. They aren't at all special--they're just another made-up day in the made-up week that we have all agreed to live under. Now, what do you think about that!

Let us pretend (for many good stories begin in that way) that you and I live in a world in which the days are all ten hours long, each week a tenday, each month ten weeks, ten months in the year, and ten years the most important measure of years. It's ten o'clock in the morning on the tenth day of the tenth month, and you're ten years old tomorrow.

Now let us say that you've suddenly realized that there isn't really any meaning to time at all, that it's really rather a silly concept used for keeping things in order, and, if you could just cure your mind of it, you might possibly live a happier life. Yes, a happier life devoid of all the 'just five minutes' and 'my appointment's at six', the 'the children must be there in a half-hour' and 'it'll only take fifteen minutes', 'next week' 'six weeks later' 'five years ago'...no more of it, any of it. Just taking things as they happen, doing things as they need doing, and you'd surely be happier.

Of course, you'd be forced to suddenly live a much, much simpler life, as the rest of the world would simply keep about their imaginary time and ignore you completely. Mightn't that be an interesting experiment, though?

Of course, we could bypass all of that fuss and simply slip inside time, or around it, or ignore it altogether and just do things the way we wish to do them.

Now let us pretend that I went to sleep some hours ago so that I can be up and ready to leave home by ten o'clock in the morning.
