She stared up at the sky, hazy from the pollution of thousands of city lights. His hand met hers, held it. There was a moment of silence.
"You're, what was it again, a Pisces? Your birthday is in March, right?"
"Yeah." His voice was tight in his throat, and the sound was strained. "But, I, er, always thought that it might be more fun to make up your own constellation, you know, and not be tied to the old ones."
She laughed.
"You're right! I could be, like, a starfish, or a mongoose, and you--"
"I'd be the constellation that isn't a shape. Like a new type of animal or something that makes a shape you can't define. A dream constellation."
"Though I've always thought you made a pretty good fish..." She didn't know quite how to finish her sentence and tumbled straight into the next without a pause. "Just think, if your horoscope for Pisces was bad, you could just ignore it and write yourself a new one. Think how lucky you'd feel, if you could make sure you had nothing but good days."
"Yeah, lucky." He stared out into the black map of the city.
"Um, it's sort of late, really. I should, I should go home and uh, sleep. But--"
"I understand. It was lovely to meet you and share this with you, one born under the sign of the Mongoose-Starfish." A smile drifted across his mouth like a wave breaching the shore at low-tide. His teeth shone like shells, and she felt herself melting like foam on the beach.
"You, too. Can we get together later? Sunday, maybe?"
"Sure--sure, that'd be really great."
She dared a kiss on his cheek, then tossed on her sweater and raced off down the staircase.

He sat, gazing out at the stars.
"Very lucky, if you'll be the one to write them with me."
