Tuesdays...
10/14/03 10:02 amsometimes wake you up before you go-go...
I had a sort of revelation related to reading as I was sitting and eating my breakfast cereal. I used to read quite indiscriminantly and without hesitation any sci-fi or fantasy novel that fell into my grubby little mitts. I didn't judge their quality by relation to any other book, or really, much at all. Then, somewhat recently, I realized that I'd begun comparing books to each other to determine what I thought of their quality.
"Is this better than that one I read two months ago? Has the author used a distinctive set of word choices? How do I feel about the setting?"
I know, I know, these are the things that English classes are usually supposed to teach you, but I slept through a good number of mine, so don't bother me about it.
Anyhow, I've got to go contemplate catching a bus, so I'll contemplate this some more and come back with a rebuttal for myself after work.
Ciao~.
