Like a pawn I lay me down
12/1/09 11:23 pmin the silence just before we fall asleep we smile,
no kings, no queens, just we two children, curling
small and smaller until it seems we might disappear.
teaching each other the paths between the stars
and you have promised that one day you'll learn
not just how to fly, but how to land, and you'll
take me with you when you go jaunting. i am quiet,
knowing without words that i might get there first.
away from everyone else, we know what we are, both
ridiculous and divine in equal portions, sliced neatly,
made a unit for the sake of the fun it brings,
and we hold each other tight until the sun rises.
