The thrill of the chase.
10/16/07 07:05 pm"October passed me by," she said with a snort, "in a hurdy-gurdy haze of rain on the wind and leaves tumbling in the gutters."
I didn't have much to give by way of response, but I smiled, hoping the conversation would continue, if only for the joy I found in hearing her speak.
"I think I lost a bit of last weekend, you know, some tiny shard of time that I really might have liked to use for other things."
Still, nothing. I felt stifled, my tongue desert-dry.
Eventually, bored by my lack of response, she wandered off. I never saw her again, but I always remembered the way she spoke and the cotton candy scent of her perfume.
