And the signs say...

Beware of god.

I was walking past a house today, and there was a 'Beware of dog' sign up. I misread it at first, and then thought that, if I ever own a house, someday in the nebulous and ambulatory future, I would like a sign that said, "Beware of god." It would give an excellent indication of the sort of human who lived there.

I would tell people who asked that there was no particular god I was warning them away from, just that the concepts involved in a personified deity, or more accurately, the organized religion surrounding that deity, are often nearly antithetical to the ideals I hold dear.

They look like big, good, strong...

Hands (I)

many have died for me
more will yet see the
lands beyond this life
for these pale hands
but in her -- i find
something still living
some warmth under her
inside her torn skin

Hands (II)

the cold seeps in
and stays for a while
making itself comfortable
to touch her now --
she would cry out in pain
somehow, it would be
beautiful to hear

Hands (III)

i have dreams, still
prayers for a future
without these fears,
pure and quiet and cold
empty of laughter
yet also cleansed of tears
to look into her eyes
my dreams fade
to touch her with these hands
i see them stained in blood
